Even Oracle might not have known what it had when it brought Google to trial, but when the trial began to turn around the idea of copyrighting APIs, it couldn't have gone better for an old-school enterprise software company with a lot to lose if the cloud and open source continue to take over IT.

One recently established government agency had the luxury of building its IT infrastructure from the ground up, and it chose open source software whenever possible. It also is open sourcing its custom code as a way of giving back to the community.

Android is a free OS and so far nobody has been able to get around the cost of hardware to produce a decent non-subsidized cell phone for $20. Telefonica Digital believes it can running the new Mozilla OS, but it's going to face some serious obstacles.
