I was surprised to read in Technologizer today that Verizon will be offering the Samsung Galaxy Tab, the first Android-based tablet computer for $599, $100 more than the cheapest iPad. There's so much wrong with this pricing strategy, it's hard to know where to start.
First of all, the tremendously popular iPad has a 6 month head start. It is the benchmark against which all other tablet computers will be measured. If you want to compete, you don't come in $100 higher than the least expensive iPad. You come in at least $100 lower (even if it means you're losing money initially).
The idea is to draw people's attention away from Apple. You simply can't do that without undercutting the market.
What's more, why tie it to any particular cell provider. Why not put it in a big retail shop like Best Buy or Staples?
The Samsung Galaxy Tab may be a great device. I don't know, but at this price and through this distribution channel, I don't see it having much of a chance.

basically, half the screen area of an iPad for almost the same price. side by side in the same Verizon store. someone is going to buy this? besides diehard fandroids i mean.
