I was having a friendly debate on Twitter today with my friend Adam O'Connor, a freelance web UI designer. We were arguing the finer points of how to embed Help in a web UI. Ultimately, we agreed that in the best case the UI didn't require a lot of help and that embedded help should be subtly applied.
By coincidence I came across this video today by John Underkoffler, who helped design the interface for the computer scenes in the film Minority Report and in real life works on future user interface experience. Here, he discusses a 3D approach to UI design. Fascinating. Almost borders on science fiction.
