NewsGator Featured in Today's Home Base

My latest Home Base column, PR on the Cheap, features the news aggregator, NewsGator.

I describe how small companies who can't afford to hire a PR firm or a clipping service, can use a news aggregator such as NewsGator to help monitor the Web and blogs for information about their company or markets. What makes NewsGator unique is that it works inside Outlook, a program many business people use anyway.

The article focuses on ActiveWords, a small software company that uses NewsGator to monitor the Web for buzz on their product. The ironic part of this post is that ActiveWords should know about it within an hour of my posting because they have NewsGator set to let them know any time the company name is mentioned anywhere on the Web.

By the way, ActiveWords is a nifty little utility that enables you to assign a key command to launch a program, file or Web site. For example, you could assign the key command "mz" to launch Mozilla. I also use it for quick access to chunks of text I use regularly. They offer a generous 60 day trial and it's definitely worth a look.
